Gloria Estefan talks new movie role in Gabby’s Dollhouse

In late September 2025, Gloria Estefan appeared on ABC News Live with Linsey Davis to discuss her role in her new film.

She appears in DreamWorks’s Dollhouse: The Movie as Grandma Gigi, a guiding grandmother figure.

The film blends live action and animation and follows Gabby on a whimsical journey through the cat-themed city of Cat Francisco.

Estefan said the role allows her to explore storytelling in film and connect with younger audiences in a new way.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie premiered in Melbourne earlier this month and opened in U.S. theatres on 26 September.

The production is directed by Ryan Crego, known for his animated storytelling in children’s entertainment.

Estefan’s casting as Grandma Gigi was confirmed in May 2025 during the release of the official film trailer.

What Estefan revealed in the interview

Estefan has previously acted in films, including Music of the Heart (1999). 

Beyond her music career, she has co-written children’s books and helped bring the Broadway musical On Your Feet! to the stage, showcasing her influence across multiple areas of entertainment.
