Cape Town Set to Host Global MMA Superstars at PFL Africa

Cape Town is about to enter the global combat sports spotlight as it prepares to host PFL Africa, an electrifying event presented by the Professional Fighters League. Slated for July 19, 2025, at the GrandWest Arena, the event will see some of the most iconic names in MMA battle it out on South African soil — a first for the continent.

Among the standout fighters on the card are former Bellator champions A.J. McKee and Corey Anderson. McKee will face the formidable Akhmed Magomedov in what promises to be a high-octane featherweight bout, while Anderson makes his much-anticipated heavyweight debut against Russian powerhouse Denis Goltsov. Also confirmed are middleweight champion Johnny Eblen and rising women’s star Dakota Ditcheva, who will face Sumiko Inaba in a showcase of international talent.

Why Cape Town?

Cape Town, already known for its vibrant culture, scenic landscapes, and world-class hospitality, now adds elite-level MMA to its growing list of global attractions. Hosting PFL Africa not only solidifies South Africa’s place in the international sports scene but also provides a platform for local African fighters to gain exposure, build fanbases, and compete against the best.

The city’s reputation for organizing smooth, safe, and exciting events — from cricket and rugby to marathons and concerts — makes it a perfect backdrop for the PFL’s first African installment.

What to Expect on Fight Night

Attendees can expect a full-throttle MMA experience: live DJ sets, ring-side entertainment, food trucks featuring local cuisine, and of course, a night of gripping fights that will leave fans on the edge of their seats. With both local and international broadcasters covering the event, the world will be watching — and Cape Town will shine.

For aspiring South African fighters, this event is more than just a spectacle. It’s inspiration. It’s proof that their dreams of stepping into the cage on a global stage are within reach.
