Hulk Hogan dies at 71 after cardiac arrest in Florida home

Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, died on the morning of 24 July 2025, aged 71. Paramedics responded to a medical emergency at his Clearwater, Florida, home at approximately 9:51 a.m., following reports of cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders treated Hogan at the scene and transported him by stretcher to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

Clearwater Police confirmed his death and stated that responders had administered aid before taking him to Morton Plant Hospital. TMZ first broke the news, which WWE later confirmed in an official statement.

Recent health, surgery, and last public appearance

In May 2025, Hogan underwent spinal fusion surgery, his tenth back operation in two decades. His wife, Sky Daily Hogan, publicly dismissed reports of serious health issues earlier this month.

She affirmed that his heart was “strong” and rejected rumours of a coma. Notably, Hogan made headlines during the 2024 Republican National Convention. There, he endorsed Donald Trump by ripping his shirt to reveal a “Trump-Vance 2024” tank top, energising supporters and trending across social media platforms.

A wrestling career that shaped global entertainment

Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s after defeating The Iron Sheik in 1984, launching the global phenomenon known as Hulkamania. He went on to headline the first WrestleMania in 1985 and featured in eight main events during his career.

In 1996, Hogan shocked fans by forming the New World Order in WCW, transforming wrestling storylines. He also starred in Hollywood films like Rocky III and Mr. Nanny. WWE inducted him into the Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020 with the NWO faction.

Controversies, legal battles, and lasting legacy

In 2015, Hogan was suspended from WWE after a leaked tape revealed racist language. He later apologised and returned in 2018. In 2016, Hogan won a privacy lawsuit against Gawker, settling for $31 million (approximately R573.5 million) over the unauthorised sex tape leak.

Despite controversies, fans and peers consistently praised his impact on wrestling. WWE issued a tribute statement after Hogan’s death, but it has not confirmed any upcoming events specifically planned to honour him.

Florida officials have not yet released autopsy details; further information may follow pending the medical examiner’s official report confirmation.
